Beekeeping Land Plot

Bees are becoming a threatened species and we have a duty to encourage bee populations. Our Beekeeping Land is a small plot of land suitable for the placement of 4 bee hives, allowing each bee hive the recommended 25sq ft of space. Our Beekeeping land plots will be situated near to our orchards and allotments, giving the bees a great source of pollen. In addition each of our sites are planted with wild flowers and lavender bushes.

Beekeeping has positive ecological effect. Bees play an important role in the pollination of many flowering plants, thus increasing the yield of certain crops such as sunflower and various fruits. The honey they produce is a delicious and highly nutritious food.

Bees produce one of natures most wonderful products – honey. Honey is well known for its many health benefits and has been used for centuries to help cure minor ailments such as sore throats and coughs. Pasteurised honey has fewer benefits than raw honey and is normally found in supermarkets, raw honey can usually be acquired from small local beekeepers.

We take a lot of care with our planting, as many hybrid flowers and plants  no longer produce pollen and are sterile. These plants together with genetically modified plans are part of the reason that bee populations are falling. We plant traditional non modified plants and avoid commercially bred plants. Read more
