Little Fields Rejuvenation

September 2022

Land for life have purchased a substantial land holding just outside of Sevenoaks, Kent. The land is ideally situated with good transport links to London and the M 25. The land is currently laid to pasture and offers little environmental or bio diversity gains to the area. We will be changing the current baron landscape by planting several kilometres of hedging, creating meadow flowering pathways and planting hundreds of trees.

We want everyone to have the opportunity to own and use land in a way that helps the environment and gives owners a real pleasure and satisfaction. We are creating orchards, allotments, bee keeping land and leisure land that can bought at affordable prices.

October 2022

Topping the field

Our first step in bringing this land back to life has been to cut the existing grass and weeds which were over 2 feet tall. Now that this has been cut, light will be able to reach the ground and this will promote new growth. In another 8 weeks we will cut this once more and the grass should have rejuvenated ready for the next step.

Surveying the field

Now that the grass is being cut our surveyor can start to mark out the individual orchards and allotments on the site. Our surveyors use state of the are equipment to precisely mark out the boundaries of each plot, this is done via satellite GPS and is the most accurate way of measuring and mapping land.

Step 1 complete

The land has now been fully cut and all the plots have been marked out. We are now ready to start creating the allotments and planting orchards and hedging throughout the site. November will see the start of over 2 miles of hedging being planted and over 100 fruit trees.

Make way for hedgerows

Bamboo poles mark the way for the hedging that will be the natural boundary to our orchards. Each bamboo pole will be supporting one hawthorn hedging plant. We will be planting several thousand hedging plants over the coming months.

Here come the allotments

The Allotments have now started being created ready for beautiful vegetables to start growing. We can’t wait to see everybody start enjoying them.

Hedgerows have now been planted

The Hawthorn hedgerows have been planted and mark the boundaries to peoples orchards. These hedgerows are expected to grow 2 feet taller over the next 12 months. These hedgerows will also help animals and insects cross the land.

Ready for planting the apple trees

Our new orchard owners have designed the layout of their orchards and the holes have been dug ready for planting. We can’t wait to see how beautiful everyones orchards designs become.

Fruit trees are growing

Most of the newly planted fruit trees are already flowering, and after the flowers, come the fruit!!
