Testimonials – What our clients say

Clarissa – 1,000 sq ft Orchard

“Fantastic experience through and through! Wonderful support from the whole family regarding deciding which orchard to buy, what plants to plant, how to design it… They also answered all my questions regarding the paperwork, which was also very smoothly organised and easy to understand. Very excited as my apple tree already has a few apples!”

Bev – 1,000 sq ft Orchard

“We’ve bought a mini orchard together with friends and have found the whole process very easy thanks to Max and his lovely family. They are doing a grand job with this wonderful project and I would highly recommend people get onboard before all the plots sell out!”

Sam – 6,000 sq ft Orchard

“I purchased an orchard recently from land4life. I have always wanted to have a green space to plant some trees and grow some veg. When I found about this land, I contacted land4life immediately.
The team of land4life were very friendly and professional and that encouraged me to visit the site. Here we are. I am an orchard owner now 🙂
Since then Max and Oliver have done a lot of work on my orchard, most the trees planted. Hedging planted and the orchard looks great already.
The process of the purchase was very simple it took only half an hour for me to read through the papers and sign them.
The best thing of purchasing your allotment or orchard from land4life is you get a very friendly team who do their best to keep you happy and they do the hard work and plant whatever fruit trees, etc you like. The area around the orchard is very clean and quite and yet only 5 mins drive from the motorway. If you have always dreamt to have your land, don’t wait!”

Nicola – 3,000 sq ft Orchard

“I am lucky enough to be purchasing an Orchard from Land4life, I came across this some time ago and contacted them because i really wanted to be part of something so wonderful and they have been so unbelievably great! From start to finish they have been hands on with me, helping me choose and design my orchard exactly how I would like it and have gone above and beyond. Meeting me at the orchard and going through every detail and really spending time to listen. They have wonderful plans for this land and I cannot wait to be part of the community

Thank you to Max, his Wife and Son for being so unbelievably welcoming. You really know your stuff”

Thank you all for inviting us to Little Orchards first bbq. Many thanks for all your time and generosity in providing us with a great lunch. We enjoyed catching up with you all, and meeting our new like minded neighbours and friends.
It was nice to hear all the different ideas they had, and their appreciation of the beautiful location that surrounds little orchards .We look forward to many fruitful days to come.
Thank you again Mick & Sue”

Juliana – 1,000 sq ft Orchard

“I came across the Land4Life website early on and thought it a fantastic opportunity. Shared with some friends who felt the same so 4 of us bought an orchard early on, in phase 1. It has been a pleasure working with Max and family in planning our orchard and we have also enjoyed visiting the land which is in a lovely spot. We have a good range of fruit trees ( lots of choices in planting) which have all been planted along with hedgerows for a natural fencing. Looking forward to our first harvests, picnics in the orchard and community social events.!”

Su – 1,000 sq ft Orchard

Markets

At heart, Farnham is a market town. Dating back to the Middle Ages Farnham offered a weekly market and an annual fair which attracted visitors from all over Surrey and Hampshire to buy and sell goods.

Today, Farnham has an award winning, certified monthly Farmers’ Market with nearly forty regular stallholders. Farmers’ Markets give shoppers the chance to buy seasonal produce direct from the producer and food is noticeably fresher and tends to be tastier because it has been grown, raised, caught, baked, picked or processed all within 50 miles of the market. The Farmers’ Market takes place in Central car park on the fourth Sunday of every month, so don’t miss the chance to pick up delicious, fresh locally produced food.
Once a year the Farnham Food Festival a huge bustling market takes place in Castle Street in September bringing together Farnham’s local producers plus a variety of other culinary specialists.

History & Craft

Farnham has a magnificent history, with evidence of Stone Age, Roman and Saxon dwellings found here. Many of the Georgian buildings conceal structures of Tudor or even earlier times.  England’s first Cistercian abbey was built near Farnham. The now ruins of Waverley Abbey are situated in a peaceful loop of the River Wey and still give an impression of the solitude experienced by the monks who founded a monastery here almost 900 years ago.

The Town is crowned by a 12th century castle overlooking the heart of Farnham, built in 1138 AD by Henry de Blois, grandson of William the Conqueror and has been occupied for nearly 900 years, mostly by the powerful Bishops of Winchester. Monarchs from King John to Queen Victoria have all visited, whilst Henry VIII was a regular guest during his boyhood. When Elizabeth I visited, she bought her Court along too and ran the country from Farnham for six months!

The roots of Farnham’s engagement with crafts can be dated back to the time when the town exported white clay to the Romans. In the sixteenth century, potteries in Farnham were major suppliers of pottery to London.  Farnham Pottery now offers a community based arts, craft and education experience, inspired by the town’s historic ties with pottery, plus a café to enjoy.  Fast forward to today and Craft still sits at the heart of Farnham’s distinctiveness and this special feature was acknowledged in 2013 when Farnham was designated as England’s Craft Town.  Each October, Farnham hosts a celebration of craft with well over a hundred events taking place throughought the town.  This is your chance to see makers in action; take a craft walk; get making and buy work from local designers.

The establishment of The Farnham School of Art in 1880 strongly promoted the education in craft subjects as part of its curriculum, and a powerful reputation was developed that has lasted throughout the 20th century and to the present day especially in courses in textiles and ceramics. Craft courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels are offered at the University for the Creative Arts at Farnham, the successor institution to the Art School. Craft courses in jewellery, metalwork, glass as well as in textiles and ceramics offer today’s emerging craft makers unrivalled opportunities in some of the best equipped studios and workshops in any specialist university in the country.

In fact Farnham has always been an inspiring town and the local area backdrop for literary and artistic talent.  Farnham is proud to be home to many well-known characters and faces over the years, from Jonathan Swift and the radical journalist William Cobbett, to John Henry Knight builder of Britain’s first petrol-powered motor vehicle. Many people also won’t know that the magically famous story of ‘Peter Pan’ was written whilst J. M. Barrie occupied Black Lake Cottage on the Tilford Road.

Walks

In the month of May, Farnham hosts a free walking festival, show casing the history and heritage of the town and the beautiful surrounding countryside.  Throughout the year if you want to explore Farnham there are a number of walks and trails to guide you. Whether you want to delve into the history of Farnham or discover its rich history of flora and fauna there is so much to do!

A number of ready-made trail leaflets are available to pick up from Farnham Town Council offices or download from www.farnham.gov.uk.

If you are lucky enough to be in Farnham on the first Sunday of the month why not take part in a Farnham Town Walks and explore Farnham’s hidden treasures while learning about its wealth of history. The walks start from a meeting point in Waggon Yard car park and cost £3 which is donated to charity.

On the circular walking Heritage Trail you can discover more about Farnham’s historic treasures, from the unusual groups of seven steps leading to the castle built for the blind bishop in 1524 from where King Charles I stayed on West Street to William Cobbett’s tomb at St Andrew’s Church
A self-guided Tree Trail guides you around Central Farnham identifying a mix of common native species and more usual specimens. Starting in Gostrey Meadow in the centre of Farnham discover a huge range of beautiful trees.  A second trail includes trees in Farnham Park.
A new art trail will lead you on a voyage of discovery as art and craft features on public display create a sense of place and individuality.  Discover sculptures, wood carvings, terracotta designs and ironwork, there to give pleasure to all.

Find out about Farnham’s Industrial Heritage with a self-guided trail where you will find out about whalebone corsets, the greatest wooden roof in England, the winding of the countless miles of twine and many buildings which are not really quite what they seem.

Godalming

River Ock, Godalming

Godalming is a charming ancient market town situated just four miles from Guildford and often finding itself on the “best places to live” lists with residents said to have a life expectancy well above the national average. Nestled away in the beautiful Surrey countryside with the River Wey running through you can expect to see cattle grazing by the waterside and canal boats moored up along the wharf.

Many of our orchard owners have a keen interest in trees and most everything that grows so why not pay a visit to the Winkworth Arboretum while you’re in the area? Established in the twentieth century, Winkworth arboretum has now been maintained by the National Trust for 60 years and has built up a collection of more than 1,000 different shrubs and trees, many of them rare. You may be surprised to learn that it’s a personal plant collection of one man with a huge passion! The most impressive displays are in Spring when the magnolias bluebells and azaleas are out and of course Autumn when the leaves turn a warmer hue.

Godalming

Godalming is a bustling historic market town situated just four miles from Guildford. Nestled in the pretty Surrey countryside right by the River Wey, you’re in prime stockbroker belt country here. It’s the quintessential English town with a cutesy mix of charming weatherboard cottages, nice laneways and a healthy smattering of lovely independent stores that no doubt appeal. Plus you can get to London in under an hour – so plenty of boxes are ticked.

All of this, plus the town’s Shakespearean vibe and great community feel mean it’s no stranger to those ‘best places to live’ lists. It’s even been said that Godalming-ites have a life expectancy well above the national average.

There’s plenty of history too. In the 16th century, Godalming was famed for its booming wool industry. And when the wool industry took a hit, the town reinvented itself and became known for making stockings. Who knew? Another one quirky little fact: In 1881, Godalming became the first place in the UK to have a public electricity supply and electric street lighting.
